Bio
Estelle Dawn Zorman was born in Slovenija and lives in the Washington DC area where she paints, shows, and sells her art.
She began drawing at the age of 3 under the tutelage of her aunt Milka in the little village of Bobovek near Kranj. Her family left Slovenija in 1945, lived for 5 years in the Austrian refugee camps (thank you Austria!), and in 1950 emigrated to the United States. Estelle’s gift in the visual arts has been a great blessing inspiring her to share her feelings and life observations. If the top bunk-bed where she slept as a child in the Austrian camps where still there one could see her drawings and engravings depicting scenes from a magical childhood. She tells of a time at the dusk of the evening as she was lying on that top bed being mesmerized by the deepest most velvety blues and purples in the changing evening sky. Her artist soul was hungry and thirsty for beauty in that barren Austrian camp. Even today her acrylics and watercolors depict internal and external beauty.
Her family eventually settled in Cleveland, Ohio, where during her school years she attended as many art classes as possible. At 20 she joined the Ursuline Order as a Nun and became an elementary school teacher inspiring her students to value artistic expression. After 12 wondrous years with the Ursuline Nuns Estelle left the Ursuline community and eventually married and raised 3 children. When her children were old enough she resumed her art education attending Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland. In 1978 she began to teach art, entered juried shows, had solo exhibitions in various galleries and public venues winning numerous awards. In 1997 Estelle won a world-wide competition awarding her the privilege to join and paint in an Artist Colony in Most Na Soci, Slovenija. In 2003 she won the prestigious Gold Medal Award in the Baltimore Watercolor Society Multistate Juried Exhibition.
Estelle aims to inspire the viewer’s creativity with her art reflecting light and joy. Her work is semiabstract with vibrant colors and can be found in private and public collections throughout the US and Europe
.
Estelle’s art is grounded while spiritually uplifting. Her paintings flow from her understanding of life, the depth of her perspective, and her love for the sweet earth.
